HINESVILLE - James Lee Toombs, 54, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.
James was a native of Marietta, Florida, who had lived in Liberty County for the past 18 years, having moved here from Germany. He was born May 9, 1964, to Joseph and Ireatha Borders Toombs. James was a graduate of Hillsborough High School, Class of 1982.
After graduation, James enlisted in to the United States Army. He was a retired veteran who served during the Gulf War. After his military service, James went to work with Frito Lay and retired after more than 16 years with the company.
James loved spending time in the yard with his dog. He loved art, music and cars. James was a member and secretary of Chosen-Liberty Corvette Club of Hinesville. He was of the Christian Faith.
James will be dearly missed by all of those that knew and loved him.
Survivors are his wife of 21 years, Joy Marie Toombs of Hinesville; son and daughter-in-law, Jajuan and Janica Toombs of Hinesville; sons, Jameel Toombs of El Paso, Texas, and Rashid McMillan of Hinesville; daughters, Deja Toombs of Hinesville and Vernell Johnson of Columbus, Georgia; father, Joseph Toombs Sr. of Tampa, Florida; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph Jr. and Anita Toombs of Tampa; sister and brother-in-law, Treotha and Frank McCauley of Tampa; aunt and uncle, Ozella "Helen" and Ira Bell; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home Chapel with Apostle Lakysha James officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Georgia Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Glennville. Full military honors will be rendered.
Pallbearers will be from the United States military.
Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
