SAN DIEGO, CA - Thomas Alan Gartner III, 42, passed away on May 24, 2018, at his home in San Diego.
Alan was born on Jan. 8, 1976, in Vicenza, Italy. He was a graduate of Bradwell Institute. After graduation, Alan was a truck driver for many years.
Alan made the decision to serve his country and enlisted in to the United States Army. He was a decorated disabled veteran who served in Iraq and received many awards, medals and ribbons during his enlistment.
Alan loved life and his kids meant the world to him. Alan also had a passion for photography and some of his photography is currently being displayed in exhibits in California.
He always had a smile on his face and he loved to laugh and never met a stranger. Alan was a father, son, soldier and a friend, who will be missed by many who he leaves behind.
Survivors are his son, Grayson; daughter, Madeline; stepsons, Nathan and Jiovanni; mother, Deborah Byrum Gartner; father, Thomas Alan Gartner Jr.; grandmother, Ruth Gartner; aunts, Teri McLaurin and Beth Turay; uncle, Joe Byrum; special family friend, Gene Ledbetter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington.
Funeral services and burial will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 11, at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with Pastor Dale L. Bange officiating and with military honors.
