December 27, 1928 - April 2, 2018
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear Dad/Popa/Popa Don on April 2, 2018, a month after his wife of 63 years, Joy, passed away.
Don's passion for life was fuelled by his curiosity, love and appreciation of nature and the outdoors. His collection of wildflower and landscape photographs are a testament to this. His patience shone through waiting for the perfect light to capture his subjects beauty. Many youthful summers were spent in Muskoka where he honed his interests as a wood crafter, boat builder, outboard hydroplane racer, and avid fisherman.
Don retired from a successful career in art and advertising in Toronto, and moved to the Sunshine Coast in 1992. His influence on the Coast can be seen at the Chapman Creek Hatchery where after many years of volunteering, the Energy turbine encasing "Don Petry Powerhouse" stands tall.
Predeceased by son Bryan in 2010. Left to mourn are his daughter Dianne (Hank), grandchildren Emily, Joel, and Cameron.
The family would like to thank the staff at Shorncliffe for their wonderful care for Don.
We will miss his sly sense of humor and twinkle in his eye.
No service by request. Any donation in Don's memory to the Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society would be greatly appreciated.
