I have very fond memories of Mr. Barker. He was my drama teacher at Max Cameron High School when I was fifteen and he nutured my deep love of theatre and performing. He was a fine man and one of those teachers that changed things for me for the better. Fifty years later I am still performing, Mr. Barker!

So sorry for your loss of this wonderful man. I had the pleasure of having him as my Grade 12 English Teacher, many years ago! May wonderful memories help you all at this difficult time.

I had Mr.Barker in grade 12 and he was a great teacher. I live in Kenora, On. and ran into him a few times when he was visiting here. It was always a pleasure and I’m sorry to hear of his passing.

Terry was a rare human being - a gentleman of the first order, intelligent, kind, forgiving, adventurous and most of all, a teacher in the true sense of the word. We corresponded over many years; I am a published author today thanks to his encouragement, support and advice. I have kept his e-mails, have all of his books, loved and respected this man dearly, as everyone who knew him, did. I was fortunate to be a member of his first English class in grade seven at Brooks High School. We were all "special"; when I visited Terry at Shorncliffe two years ago he had a picture of our class taped to the wall above the computer that he could no longer use; he so proudly showed it to me with kind remarks and remembrance. Our world was blessed to share this man; it is much a poorer place without him but what a legacy he has left! I grieve with you in your loss, Shannon, but how fortunate to have called this wonderful man "dad!" Than
k you for this lovely tribute to him.

Only sorry I didn’t meet Terry sooner than I did and hear more of those stories first hand, but was delighted meet him when I did.

What greater legacy can any of us leave than the deep true love of our family and friends. As Shannon shared his story, the quality of Terrys character was easy to see and feel. Shannon, you have those same beautiful qualities. I am sure he was very proud of all of you.I am so sorry for this great loss to your family.

I first met Terry as a student of drama in His Max Cameron class way back in the 70’s.
We crossed paths many times through the intervening years. He was that rare type of person who made instant and lasting impact.
My life was better for our meeting.
I will miss him.

Shannon and Kevin: I need to tell you that without your father's guidance in my Last couple years of high school. They were also my best years scholasticly because he taught me to care about myself and not worry about what others thought. I was fortunate to be reacquainted with Terry when he had a speaking engagement in Prince George. We were joined for lunch by other former students, Lawrence Hewitt and Darlene Cosgrove. He made you feel special as he made time to socialize again. I then got to see him again at his home in Sechelt. He was much loved by those that had the time to spend with him. You are quite correct Shannon, his shoes cannot be filled by anyone. He will be in my heart forever. I will wait for word on a celebration of life. That is a wonderful tribute that you wrote for his obituary.

Our condolences to the Barker family on the passing of our friend Terry. We will always remember Terry and Connie as the perfect couple. They enjoyed each other's company and shared a wonderful life of giving and sharing experiences. Susan wants us to be like Terry & Connie and help others as we grow old together. We have planted things at our place that they would enjoy and will think of the two of them as we tend to the memories. The vine on the carport at the front of the Surf Circle home is one of these. Cuttings are here for the family. They live on here.

Definitely one of my favourite teachers. He gave me an A- in a poetry exam even tho I completely messed up on the poets meaning of the poem. He wrote a little note on the side Saying “I enjoyed your translation of the poem. Not quite what the poet meant. Great job”. lol he was a great teacher❤

I miss you more than I can say. You were my best friend....I hope your next journey is full of light and love as your life here certainly was. As a friend said, you spent your whole life "in the light". So true.
