Albert Rich Obituary

RICH, Albert Edward "Ab"
January 20, 1937 – January 14, 2018
Forward thinking and ground breaking Albert (Ab) Rich was a man
of many talents. Naturally charismatic and always charming
he was able to have the attention of any room. He will be deeply
missed by his wife Susanne and his family. Anyone lucky
enough to meet him was always drawn to his joy for life and
his deep sense of humour. He took many risks in business
and always rose to a challenge. Later in life he was able to
pursue his passion for travel and got to see many places
he could have only imagined as a child of the depression.
To his family and friends Ab was the epitome of putting your
mind to something and getting it done. In no other aspect of
life did he succeed more than in being a husband, father and
grandfather. Ab had a great passion for ranching and enjoyed
nothing more than going to check on the cows. From his early days
as an R.C.M.P. he always had a profound connection to horses and enjoyed ridding well
into his later years including partaking in the historic "Hooves of History Cattle Drive".
Ab was an avid junk collector and truly enjoyed finding treasures at auctions. In his retirement
he collected old cars, rebuilt 4 Fargos with his sons, and was working on a 37' Oldsmobile.
He also discovered at his second home in Armstrong that he had a green thumb and spent
many afternoons working in his garden. His love of mysteries never ended and he could
always be found somewhere with a book in his hands and a cup of coffee beside him.
He loved golfing but never could get centered or seem to beat his son, however, the time
spent on those trips was always cherished and loved. Ab was born with luck and never
walked past a casino or slot machine, especially in Las Vegas, without winning money.
He will be deeply missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at All Saint's Anglican Church, 404 4 Ave N, Cochrane, on
Monday January 22, 2018 at 11:00a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made
to STARS Air Ambulance, www.stars.ca/. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to
the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.

As we sit here waiting for our litter of puppies to arrive stressing over the fact we cannot be there in person to show our support and our love for the family of this great man, know we are happy as we think back on all moments of brightness this special man has brought to us and many others . Thank You to the Rich family for all the great memories that I had spending so many hours with Ab on the ranch, especially when we built the garden on the east side of the house. That was great summer and only one of my many memories of I had with him. I will truly miss him more than you know.

I have been struggling with writing down my thoughts of what Ab meant to me. I know my family and I did not know Ab as long as a lot of people but he will always have a special place in our hearts.
I will miss our conversations, I will miss his smile, I will miss his humor, I will miss the stories of his amazing life, I will miss his advice and I will miss so many other things that made Ab the incredible man he was.
I will miss our mutual love for books, gardening, classic vehicles and antiques. I selfishly wish we had the opportunity to know Ab longer and will always cherish the time we spent with him.
Susanne and Family
Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday......unseen, unheard, but always near, still LOVED, still missed and very dear.
Sending Hugs and Love

Ab...wow...where do I start...unfortunately for me I did not know Ab for as long as I'm sure many of you have however in the short time I knew Ab you just knew...you just knew he was one of those guys that doesn't come along very often...one of those guys that could brighten your day without saying a word but simply just being in his presence...one of those guys that would give you the shirt off his back...one of those guys you just don't replace and can't replicate...and now unfortunately one of those guys you wished you had more time to spend with...Ab, you were that guy for me that was one of a kind...true blue, one of the best and I am truly going to miss your smile, your humour, your sincerity and generosity...heaven got their perfect angel today who will be forever missed by anyone that's met Ab...Susanne and family, I feel very fortunate and very grateful to have had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Ab...please take comfort in knowing that he has touched so many and know that we are always here for you if you need.
