BROWN, Audrey Dora Reed

Audrey Dora Reed Brown, born July 19, 1925 passed
away peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2016.
Audrey was born in Cochrane, Alberta where she
grew up and then because the first female teller
in the Cochrane bank until her marriage in 1947.
She moved to Edmonton with her husband
Donald. Audrey worked in the bank to support
the family while Donald attended the University
of Alberta. They moved to Calgary in 1950,
after Graduation, where Don began his career in
teaching and Audrey began her life as a mother
and homemaker. She was busy with four active
kids and all that entailed but she always found time to
volunteer where needed. Summers camping and travelling
were always adventures for the whole family. She worked part-time in the
Sears cash office when the children were older. Audrey was also an artist.
Throughout her life she found time to study art at SAIT (now ACAD); at Ruskin
School, Oxford England; at San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, at Lakeland
College and other programs and workshops. She was a life member of the
Alberta Society of Artists, a member of Calgary Artists Society, a Charter
Member and an originator of Calgary Community Painters and on the Board of
Directors of Centennial Gallery. Her work has been shown in many exhibitions
throughout Alberta and her pieces can be found in several prominent, public
She is survived by her four children: Dawn Gartner (Mel), Janet Lamb (Bill),
Reed Brown (Teri), and Craig Brown; her seven grandchildren: James Carswell
(Ankie), Erin Gartner, Sara Gartner-Frey (Chris), Scott Lamb, Jonathan
Lamb (Jana), Tia Brown (Dan Crowther), McKuen Brown; and her six- great
grandchildren: Arwyn Carswell, Liam Carswell, Ariel Lamb, Ace Lamb, Quill
Brown-Crowther, and Keo Brown-Crowther. She was predeceased by her
husband of sixty-four years, Donald Edward Brown; her parents Sydney and
Lilian Reed; and her sister Dorothy Boothby.
She suffered an illness in 2006 which left her incapacitated so she spent the
last ten-years in George Boyack Carewest Continuing Care. The care she
received was superb and the staff compassionate, caring and friendly. The
family would like to thank them all for their loving care and devotion to Audrey.
We'd also like to thank Margaret Weis for her dedicated companionship.
These wonderful people have been a blessing to Audrey and her family.
A celebration of her life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of
the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
