June 7,1926 – August 5, 2015
Lynn Fenton was born near Carstairs, Alberta on
June 7, 1926 and passed away peacefully on
August 5, 2015 in Calgary, Alberta. Lynn's family
moved from Carstairs to a farm in the Cochrane area
(near present day Weedon Hall) where he attended
Cochrane Lakes School. Later the family moved to
a farm on the Horse Creek and this farm was his
lifetime home until the time of his passing. After
leaving school, Lynn worked for several neighbours
doing farm and bush work. In 1953, he married
Dorothy Perkins and soon returned to the family
farm to raise his own family. During this time, to
make ends meet on the farm, he worked for John and
James Henderson doing road construction and later
worked as a grader operator for the MD of Rocky
View #44 for 30 years before retiring. After his
retirement, his days were spent breaking and driving
horses. He proudly raised Belgian and Fjord horses as well as Belgian cross mules.
Lynn was often seen driving his teams and wagons in local parades, driving club meets
and driving competitions. He also participated in the Alberta Centennial Trail Ride
and the Hooves of History Cattle Drive. His membership in the local driving club was
a great source of enjoyment during his retirement years.
Lynn is survived by his son Dan (Diana) and their two sons Tyler (Meaghan) and
Cody (Valentina) and his daughter Wendy (Peter) and her two daughters Erin (John)
and Alyssa (Jake) and their father Erik Butters. He will also be dearly missed by his
seven great grandchildren: Katie and Sam Scott; Shelby, Hannah and Darroch Fenton;
and Maddy and Elliana Fenton. Lynn will be lovingly remembered by his sister Frances
and brother-in-law Alf Dionne, his brother-in-law Ken Elliott and numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins. Lynn was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, his mother Mabel,
his father Gladstone (Slim), his sister Joy Elliott and his brother Roy.
The family would like to thank Jean St. Dennis for her wonderful compassionate care
and friendship given to Dad. We would also like to acknowledge Dad's special friends,
Les and Roxanne Jones, for their constant help and support. Thanks as well to Gordon
and Debora Salomons for their care and concern.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew's United Church in Cochrane on
Monday, August 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Big
Hill Lodge, 98 Carolina Drive, Cochrane, AB T4C 1X5.
