Martha Sue McClatchy passed away at Cedars Health Care Center in Lakewood, Colorado on Jan. 21, 2021. She was born in Galveston, Texas June 13, 1939, to Dr. John C. and Jessica (Bright) Galbreath. Her father was an US Army doctor and the family spent several years in California when he was stationed there during World War II. They later moved back to Texas.
Martha graduated from Brownwood High School in Brownwood, Texas in 1957 and Texas Women's University in Denton, TX in 1960. That same year she married Kenneth McClatchy. They moved to Denver in 1966 and raised 4 children before divorcing in 1980.
She was preceded in death by her parents, half-sister Ann Simmon and half-brother Jess Galbreath, and her daughter Jessica Lawrence. She is survived by her sister Mary Ellen (James) Adams, children Melissa (Paul) Hermes of Fergus Falls, MN, Marsha (Bruce) Girdlestone of San Diego, CA and Michael McClatchy of Thornton, CO; grandchildren Chad and John Hermes, Rachael Girdlestone, Leo and Cris McClatchy and Sara (Michael) Truckey as well as great grandchildren, Scarlett and Maddox Truckey.
A private ceremony for the family will take place this spring at Mt. Lindo Cemetery in Morrison, CO. Olinger Mortuary is taking care of funeral arrangements.
