Class of 1993 I took Media Tech from Mr. Saalborn all 4 years and I learned a lot and had a lot of fun, he was a great TEACHER, Always funny, at least back then in the 1990's we didn't have the fancy equipment now that the schools have for students to learn the Art of Film but we did what we could with what we had to use. I decided to look Mr. Saalborn up and found this. I am sorry for your loss. God Bless Your Family and keep him in your memories he was a good guy.

I remember over 50 years ago When Ron came home to South Dakota in the summer with his shiny new speedboat to have fun with his high school buddies. I lived with grandma and grandpa saaborn when Bob was in the service. We always had excitement in the summer with the boys home and Ron beloved Leroy running around. Bless them all for putting up with the kids and I. It was a good lesson to live with those brothers as my only 1 was 2 years old at that time.
Sending prayers and peace to you all at this time.

Mr. Saalborn was without a doubt my favorite teacher at Columbia River. He knew when to be serious but was more about letting kids be kids and even joined in with that at times. He listened when you had issues and helped find ways to encourage you to find solutions. He was a true person and held no animosity with his students, or at least he didn’t show it. RIP Mr. Saalborn and thank you for the good memories! Media technology was a fun class!

Thank you Grandpa for taking me fishing, crabbing, and for rides on the green tractor.

I remember fishing with Grandpa, especially sturgeon and salmon. We caught crab too. Launching bottle rockets off at the cabin was fun. I am glad we share a middle name—Edward.

I met Ron in the late 60's after he graduated and came west to teach. He was a great friend. We spent many happy days exploring the wonderful outdoors of SW Washington. Many, many laughs. He married a wonderful person, Ann and they raised two great kids. We hadn't been in touch in recent years but he played a major role in my life and I will miss him dearly.

Mr Saalborn was such a wonderful teacher. I had him for AV more than 20 years ago and have never forgotten his humor and larger than life energy. He was always ready to help us kids with our projects, and we always knew we had the best video when Mr Saalborn jumped into the shot to make a cameo. Just a special special guy. Condolences for your family and deepest sympathies.

Ann and family, DeDe and I are very saddened to hear about the loss of your husband, father, brother, and grandfather. Our cherished memories go back 50 years as we remember the family volleyball nights at Mac Hi, fishing trips to the canal, then more trips to every fishing hole in Pacific County after your move to Chinook. Swapping fish stories out in Ron’s man cave will be sadly missed. We both want to offer our deepest and most sincere sympathy and condolences. Pat and DeDe Carlson

I knew Ron back in the 70s when he was in the national guard. He was
an outstanding guy. He was more than that. He got into trouble when he
gave food that was left over from weekend drills to families in need that he knew about at Mac Hi. What a guy!

Ron, 'Big Saal', was a friend and co-worker who lived his life with a positive attitude and a love for adventure. We can't even imagine the hundreds of thousands of students, educators and parents he influenced during his teaching career. He was a gruff, but caring teacher who asked his students to step up and be responsible. His class was also the one reason many students came to school every day. This quote from Coach Lou Holtz could easily describe Ron: "Be successful, but also be significant."
As neighbors and friends, Big Saal and Geoff introduced our boys to the joy of Buoy 10 fishing, always making those trips safe and fun. Ron joined us sledding on 'skin hill' and also never worried about Crissy (Sis) riding big wheels in our cup-de-sac with our twins. He was the perfect coach for the young T-Ballers and could entertain people of all ages with stories of his fishing and hunting adventures.
We continue to share so many great memories of Big Saal and he will be in our hearts forever.
