Pastor A.D. Smith, Sr. was born November 17, 1924 to the late Rev. John Oliver and Eliza Smith in Osceola, Arkansas.

Pastor Smith accepted Christ and was baptized early in life at Union Grove Baptist Church in Gilmore, Arkansas under the leadership of Pastor G.C. Simpson, Sr. He began preaching at the early age of 13.

A.D. Smith, Sr. married Magnolia Jean Brewer on December 24, 1944 and 11 children were born to this union.

1959, Founding Pastor of True Light Baptist Church and 1974 founded Greater Nazareth Baptist Church, both in Memphis, TN. He also pastored Greenwood Baptist Church in Lamar, Mississippi and First Baptist in Mark Tree, Arkansas.

January 8, 2012, after their retirement from Greater Nazareth, they became members of Antioch Church under the leadership of their son, Pastor A.D. Smith, Jr.

He was a member of the Baptist Ministerial Association.

Served as Vice-Moderator of the Christian Goodwill Association under the leadership of the late Dr. Jasper Williams, Sr.

Employed Conwood Inc. for many years, later he worked for Durham Transportation transporting Memphis City Schools students.

He graduated from the American Baptist Theological Seminary as well as Union University.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Magnolia Jean Smith, two children, Doris Smith and Ronald Smith, mother, Eliza Smith, father, John Oliver Smith, sisters, Jessie Mae Drake, Rosetta Smith and Ruby Smith, brothers, Roosevelt Smith, Naamon Drake, Eddie Drake. He is survived by daughters, Ruby (Robert) Kimble, Carolyn Brock, Shirley (Lee Otis) Adams, Beverly (Curtis) Watson, Deborah (Leon) Walker, Sandra (Fred) Harris; sons, Pastor A.D. (Mary) Smith, Jr., William Smith, Michael (Vickie) Smith, 27 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation, 5-7 p.m., Friday, September 8. Services: 11 a.m., Saturday, September 9, all at Antioch Church, 3639 Faulkner Road, Memphis 38118. Burial in Memory Hills Garden Cemetery, 3700 N. Germantown Parkway.
