Archie Martin Vest, 84, of Memphis Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. He was born in 1932 in San Antonio, Texas, to his parents Clovis Vest and Alta Mae Baker Vest.

Archie grew up in Arizona along with his three brothers George Vest, Clovis (Ray) Vest, and Carroll (Dave) Vest. At the age of 18, Archie enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Saratoga, the USS Oriskany, the USS Lexington, the USS Hornet, and 3 additional aircraft carriers. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1970 at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Among his 20 years of service, he earned a Vietnam Service Medal and an Armed Forces Expedition Medal while bravely defending the freedoms and values of his cherished United States.

Following his retirement from the U.S. Navy, Archie worked diligently with the Memphis National Cemetery where he became a program assistant. After working several years with the Memphis National Cemetery, he retired and later began working for the Forest Hill Cemetery as a funeral director. Throughout his career, Archie was also member of Raleigh church of Christ and Stage Road church of Christ in Memphis, where he met many lifelong friends who shared his faith.

During his career and following his retirement, Archie fervently enjoyed playing and singing country music in Mississippi. He shared his love of country music with his two dear dogs Noel and Midgie, who he showered with love, attention, and plenty of treats throughout the last several years.

Archie is survived by his children Carla Drenda Anderson and Archie Martin Vest II. Additional survivors include his grandchildren Danita Anderson, Matt Anderson, David Edwards, Renee Edwards, and Jonathan Vest and his great-grandchildren Hayley Anderson, Hannah Anderson, Luke Anderson, and Emily Edwards. He is preceded in death by his parents Clovis Vest and Alta Mae Vest, his spouses Clois Eulalia Vest and Katie Woolfork, his son Vic Edwards, and his three brothers George Vest, Clovis (Ray) Vest, and Carroll (Dave) Vest.

A memorial service will be held at Family Funeral Care in Memphis, TN with a visitation on Sunday, April 2, at 4:00 pm and a funeral service on Monday, April 3, at 10:00 am. Burial will be at the Memphis National Cemetery at 12:00 pm following the funeral service.
