Barbara Brog Zitron Obituary
Barbara Brog Zitron

Memphis, TN

Barbara Brog Zitron, age 81 born January 3, 1936 passed away peacefully at her home, March 10, 2017 after a courageously fought battle with pancreatic cancer. She was the daughter of Alta and Victor Brog of Memphis.

A graduate of Central High School, she attended the University of Illinois and the University of Memphis. Barbara had two professional careers; co-owner of The Showroom, a chain of women's clothing stores for 28 years and residential real estate for over 20 years where she was a member of the Million Dollar Club.

Barbara had a passion for fashion and it showed wherever she went. She loved dance and theater, wrote and directed plays and musicals for numerous nonprofit organizations. A 35 year breast cancer survivor, she was the co-founder of Cancer Hotline of Memphis and an active member and volunteer of the American Cancer Society and Reach to Recovery where she would visit women after breast surgery to offer support and education. Barbara was a strong lady who was an inspiration to many. She loved life and her many friends. Above all, she was about family. Her favorite expression was," the only thing in life that is not overrated is grandchildren!"

Barbara truly felt best when helping others; she was a member of numerous organizations including Memphis Hadassah, the Jewish Historical Society, Memphis Jewish Federation, Panel of American Women, Memphis Jewish Community Center, and Temple Israel and served on many boards.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alta and Victor Brog, and her brother Maurice (Raphael) Brog. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Stanley Zitron, her brother, Avron Brog (Sheila), children, Jeff Zitron (Nicole) Dana Gross (Jeff), Heidi Bloomston (Julius) and Lance Zitron (Christine); and grandchildren, Barak, Isabella, and Juliana Zitron, Brandon and Eric Bloomston, Alana and Danielle Gross.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, March 12 at the Levy-Cooper Chapel in Temple Israel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Temple Israel, or St. Jude.
