Barbara Friedrichs Allard

Randolph, TN

Barbara Allard of Randolph, TN, died on Tuesday, the 18th of April at Ave Maria Home in Bartlett. She was 81 years old.

Barbara was born in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Gustave and Virginia Friedrichs. She graduated from St. Clare High School in Woonsocket, RI, after which she attended New Jersey College for Women and the University of Rhode Island. Barbara served as the Executive Assistant to the Academic Vice President at Christian Brothers University in Memphis for 21 years. She remained a close friend to the CBU family throughout her life. She was strongly devoted to her church and the Catholic community in North Memphis. She was a lecturer, Eucharistic minister, and served on the church council at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Frayser for 50 years.

In 1956, Barbara married Jerry Allard, a US Marine for 20 years. They spent the first years of their marriage traveling the country with the Marine Corps before moving to Frayser in 1966. She would call this home for 27 years until retiring to Randolph, TN, in 1993. Barbara loved cooking and entertaining and was exceptional at both. One of her true joys was gathering with friends to enjoy a new recipe or the latest food trend. She was a prodigious reader and expert crossword solver. She could often be found gardening or bird watching on her 22 acres in Randolph. Barbara loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and especially cherished spending time with family and the many friends she made throughout her life.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jerry Allard; her children, Jeffrey Allard and his wife, Kendall of Frisco, TX, Mark Allard of Randolph, TN; and Leslie Addison and her husband, Stan Addison of Collierville, TN. She also leaves seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her brothers, Gustave Friedrichs, the Reverand Richard Friedrichs, Charles Friedrichs, and her sister, Virginia Yanyar.

A visitation will be held Monday, April 24, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 3700 Thomas Street in Memphis. A Rosary service will follow at 7 p.m. on Monday.
