Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara Jean Cobb Hammond passed from earthly life on Monday, August 28, 2017. Her peaceful rest came following a brief illness. She was the embodiment of motherhood and will be greatly missed by her family. May God's goodness, mercy and grace give her rest and peace.

Born in Waco, TX on July 12, 1934, Barbara was a graduate of Waco High School where she was involved in a variety of activities. She served as a majorette in the band, was a member of the sorority Greanheimer and voted a school sweetheart. Following graduation, she was employed by the City of Waco and later worked for the Municipal Court system.

One day she met the gaze of Tom Hammond, a tall, handsome Tennessean, and it was love at first sight. Following a budding romance and courtship they were married on February 2, 1957. Their romance reached perpetual full bloom with their lifelong love resulting in four children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They lived in several locations over the years before relocating to Cordova in 2000 to be spend their remaining years near family. They were parishioners of St. Francis.

She was intensely devoted to her children and was a caring and patient mother. She was Mimi to the grandchildren who adorned her legacy and will always be remembered by them for her positive spirit and a smile that could light up a room. She loved life most when surround by family and serving them food from her kitchen.

Her husband Tom once wrote, "Her steadfast nature and lively spirit allowed her to go through some of life's travails with a happy countenance and an always loving, unselfishness temperament. Her kindness to everyone she met exemplified her grace and her internal and external beauty-and a beauty she was."

She was dedicated to serving others and was thankful for the opportunity to serve as director of the Meals for Wheels program in Franklin, TN. While living in Dallas she started and ran a business arranging trips for nursing home residents and it gave her great joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas C. Hammond, after having shared 60 years of marriage. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Oval and Olga Cobb, brother Larry Cobb, son Thomas C. Hammond, Jr. and grandson Thomas Clifford Hammond.

She is survived by sons Randy Hammond (Kaye) of Charlotte, NC and Cobb Hammond of Memphis, daughter Melanie Mendoza (Roland) of Frisco, TX, daughter in-law Carol Hammond of Memphis; grandchildren, Grace Skertich (Ryan), Andrew Hammond (Natalie), Hays Hammond (Elizabeth), Joseph Mendoza, Katherine Mendoza, Natalie Mendoza and Lauren Hammond, and three great-grandchildren, Wade Skertich, Whit Skertich, and Amelia Hammond.

A Funeral Mass will be offered in gratitude for her life at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8151 Chimney Rock Blvd., Cordova. Family visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass at St. Francis with a reception following the Mass at the Parish Life Center.

A private Rite of Committal service will be held in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. She will be buried with her beloved husband on September 6th, his birthday.
