Barbara Tochen Zimmerman, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital at the age of 75. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends throughout her hospital stay and her passing. Born in Trenton, NJ, her family later moved to Valley Stream, NY before moving to Memphis when she was 15. Bobbi dedicated her life to helping others and serving her community. She devoted herself to a variety of local service organizations including Libraries for Literacy and The Alliance for the Blind. She helped others directly in her 15 years of service on the God's Unfinished Business committee of Temple Israel Synagogue. With her family, Bobbi helped create the Michael and Mildred P. Tochen Scholarship Fund for the Arts, known as the Mike and Millie Fund, a scholarship endowed by her family in memory of her parents to provide annual college scholarships to college-bound Mid-South high school graduates planning careers in the arts. She was a career librarian and worked in several local libraries culminating in 22 years of service as Law Librarian in the Sixth Circuit Federal Court, Western District of Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lt. Colonel Michael Tochen and Mildred P. Tochen. She is survived by two brothers, Dr. Mark Tochen of Camas, WA. and Paul Tochen of Sherwood, OR.; two sons, Howard Zimmerman and David Zimmerman of Memphis, TN; and three grandchildren, Lindsey Blakely of Bentonville, AR., Andrew Zimmerman of Memphis, TN., and Dominic Zimmerman of Houston, TX.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 9th in the Levy-Cooper Chapel at Temple Israel Cemetery, 1708 Hernando Rd., Memphis, TN 38106.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorials be made to the Library Fund of Temple Israel or the charity of the donors' choice.
