Betty Dabbs Schram, passed away on Monday, February 27th at the Waveny Care Center in New Canaan, Connecticut.

The only daughter of H.R. and Kate Dabbs, she was born in Hulbert, Arkansas in 1923. Her brothers, Charlie and Bill Dabbs, predeceased her.

Betty received a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Tennessee in 1945 where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority.

After a brief stint in local radio, Betty moved to New York City where she studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and subsequently performed in various off-Broadway productions. She eventually moved back to Memphis to raise her family. She worked for many years as an interior decorator, read books for the visually impaired on the Memphis Public Library's radio station, WYPL, and performed with Theatre Memphis, then known as the Memphis Little Theatre.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael and Stephen, of Darien, Ct., and four grandchildren: Christopher, Caroline, Parker, and Caitlin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memphis Public Library, WYPL Radio Station.

There will be a graveside service for family and friends at Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis on March 25, 2017.
