Charles Francis Hardy, 98, husband of the late Laverne W. Hardy and the late Eleanor H. Hardy, both of Memphis, TN, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Huntcliff Summit in Sandy Springs, GA.

Charlie was born in Manchester, NH on May 21, 1918, the third child of the late Charles R. and Sarah M. Hardy. He attended Manchester Central High School, graduating in 1936 . He then moved to Los Angeles to attend Aero Industries Technical Institute for 2 years, worked for Sikorski Aircraft, Curtis Wright, and Lockheed before moving to Memphis in 1941 to become an aircraft manufacture instructor for the newly established National Defense School . He married Laverne M Wise in Memphis in 1942, moved to Jacksonville FL to work for the Navy's Bureau of Aeronautics, and enlisted in the Army shortly thereafter. On return from the war and discharge from the Army in 1946 the family moved back to Jacksonville to accept a civil service position with the Naval Air Command at NAS JAX. In 1966 he retired from civil service and began his second career as Vice President, Engineering, with The Wise Company, an industrial and recreational seating supply business in Memphis, from which he retired in 1991 soon after the passing of his wife Laverne. In 1993 he married Eleanor H Lynch, and they enjoyed retirement together until her passing in 2008, shortly after they moved to the Huntcliff Community in Sandy Springs, GA.

He is survived by his son Richard E and his wife Kathryn F Hardy of Sandy Springs, two granddaughters, Kathryn E Culver and Allison E Hardy, and great grandchildren Charlie and Chandler Culver of Decatur, GA. He is also survived by his younger brother Everett, of Hooksett, NH, and 11 nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wives he was preceded by his sisters Cora and Evelyn, and brothers Elliot and Vincent.

A viewing is scheduled for April 28, 2017, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis TN 38119.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery on April 29, with interment to follow the service.
