Charles Galloway "Gus" Morris, Jr.

Memphis, TN

Charles Galloway "Gus" Morris 87, of Memphis passed away May 14, 2017. He was born August 19, 1929 to Charles G. and Marie S. Morris. He graduated from Central High School in 1947. He later received his commission from the U.S. Army at Ft. Benning, GA, he was stationed for 2 years at Ft. Hood, TX where he served as a 1st Lt and commanding officer in the 101st Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home, he worked at Union Planters Bank for 30 years, attaining the position of Sr. Vice President and Manager of the Correspondent Banking Department. During those years, he graduated from the LSU School of Banking and traveled throughout the MidSouth, especially Arkansas and Louisiana. At one time Gus was an avid golfer, playing at Colonial and Wyndyke Country Clubs. His main interests were studying about WWII and his beloved Shelties. He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Linda Crump Morris and his sister Jeanne Morris Wittjen. Gus was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marie Morris Johnson. He was an active member of Colonial Park United Methodist Church, he attended and was president of the Adult Bible Studies Sunday School Class. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17 at Colonial Park United Methodist Church, 5330 Park Ave, Memphis, TN 38119. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Colonial Park United Methodist Church, the Memphis Humane Society, or the charity of donor's choice.
