Dan Bumpus Obituary
Dan "Down The Road" Bumpus

Arlington, tn

When Dan Bumpus passed away on October 1, this world became a lot less funny, a lot less interesting, and a lot less cool. Dan retired as an engineer from the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad and was the co-founder, inspiration, and soul behind Bumpus Harley-Davidson. Dan was born on February 8, 1957 in Lincoln, NE and after many moves, settled in Memphis. He was a 1974 graduate of Germantown High School. Dan loved anything with wheels, but nothing moved him like Harley-Davidson motorcycles. From his early teens, Dan was a rider. A bikers biker. He spread his love of the road to all he knew, and to his family as well. Stories of Dan's ability, endurance and exploits on a Harley have become legend, but all one needs to do to hear about them is speak to anyone who was fortunate enough to ride as his wingman. Adversity might have slowed him, but nothing could stop him. Dan loved life, loved people, and loved a good time. His heart was big and his wit was unmatched. Dan never met a stranger, never greeted you without a smile, and never left anyone in need. Dan loved all kinds of music, from bluegrass and rock and roll to western swing and zydeco and loved going to see live shows with friends. Dan fit the definition of "A Life Well Lived" to a "T" and made the most of every minute he spent here with us. Dan was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, the true love of his life as well as his grandparents Jack and Ina Mai Bumpus and Frank and Verta Lee Oller. He leaves behind his parents Joyce Bumpus and Jerry and Katie Bumpus. He also leaves brothers Tim Bumpus (Mary), Tom Bumpus (Angie), Scott Bumpus (Angie) and Jeff Olchawa (Mary) and nieces and nephews Kristi, Wes, Lee, Alex, Josh, Kierstin, Haiden, Carter, Brandon, Kelly, Mason, Ayvah, Landon, Jaxon, Drake, Truman, and InaMai. He also leaves behind scores of cousins, friends and people who he never even met, but who knew about "Down The Road" Dan Bumpus. The family request memorials be made to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, and a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 5, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd., Bartlett, TN. Online condolences may be viewed at
