Donald Wayne Murphree, age 68, left this world June 25, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born in Houlka MS to Mabel and Wilbur Murphree and had one brother, Jimmy Murphree, who all preceded him in death. He leaves his wife, Charmaine Cook Murphree , who on July 6 he would have celebrated 44 wonderful years with. He also leaves a son, Zachary A. Murphree and daughter, Amanda L. Murphree and one granddaughter, Bailey G. Miller. Numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who also loved him.

Don graduated from Overton High School in 1966, attended Memphis State University and WM. R. Moore Technical College, then began a career as a draftsman where he worked for William Bond Architect, later PSI and FedEx. He later became a realtor and real estate broker. For over the last 25 years he was self employed as a general contractor. Don served in Tennessee Army National Guard.

In 1985, Don was one of 5 community leaders who purchased the old Cordova School and lead the effort to preserve it as a cornerstone in old Cordova. He remained chairman of the board there.

He was an active member of Second Baptist Church for over 25 years , where he served as a deacon and a children's Sunday school teacher. Most recently a member of Trinity Baptist Church since 2009, serving as deacon and chairman of building committee. He led both churches in their building campaigns.

Don physically built a home in Horseshoe Lake, AR. He and his family have enjoyed time on the lake for over 10 years. Don loved to entertain friends and family at home and the lake.

A memorial service will be at Trinity Baptist Church Thursday, June 29, following a visitation from 5-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Building Fund of Trinity Baptist Church or charity of donors choice.
