Duane Peter Sichveland

Memphis, TN

Duane Peter Sichveland, a devoted Christian, avid outdoorsman, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on Thursday April 13, 2017. Duane was 74. He and his wife Peggy resided in Memphis, Tennessee and Jasper, Georgia.

Duane was born on June 23, 1942 in Glendale, California. His parents, Stanley and Muriel Sichveland moved Duane and his two brothers, Dorn and Dan Sichveland to Marietta, Georgia at the age of 10. After completing high school, Duane attended North Georgia College and the University of Georgia. He served his country in Korea as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

Following his army career, Duane owned several successful Sonny's Bar-B-Q restaurants in the Atlanta area. Upon his retirement from the restaurant business, he continued to stay busy developing real estate, playing golf and spending time with his seven grandchildren. He also enjoyed restoring antique clocks, playing bridge, hiking and being active in his church community.

Duane was devoted to his family and expressed love and kindness to them in many quiet ways. He adored his wife and daughters and spent countless hours with his grandchildren having great fun. He loved world travel and accompanied his grandchildren to Europe, southeast Asia, Alaska and Hawaii. His grandchildren also looked forward to seeing his elaborate halloween costume every year because he always kept it a secret from them until trick-or-treating time.

He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Peggy Sichveland, his daughters Shelly Likosar and Ashley West and seven grandchildren, Kendall and Cooper Likosar, Lilly, Eve, Charlie, Samuel and Eloise West, his sons-in-law Jeff Likosar and Casey West and his brothers Dorn and Dan Sichveland.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 18 at Second Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be at noon with a service following at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Second Presbyterian Church attention Fellows Program 4055 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38111 or to the Big Canoe Chapel Guild, Big Canoe Chapel 10455 Big Canoe in Jasper, Georgia 30143.
