Edith Goff Stanford Obituary
Edith Goff Stanford

Bartlett, TN

Edith Goff Stanford, 83, of Bartlett, Tennessee passed away September 18, 2017 at Baptist Hospice in Memphis after a short illness. Graveside funeral service will be held at Hickory Flat Cemetery in Cedar Grove, TN on September 23, 2017 at noon with Deacon Jack Chitwood, Director of Pastoral Care at Ave Maria officiating. Burial will follow. Family will meet with friends or family in Hickory Flat Methodist Church before the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. George A. Smith & Sons Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.

Edith was born August 30, 1934 in Henderson County, TN the youngest daughter of James Franklin Goff and Eliza Overman Goff. She attended Trezevant High School. At 16 she married the love of her life James Herman Stanford in Corinth, MS on February 25, 1951. Edith and Herman lived in Cedar Grove, Milan, Memphis and Bartlett.

In recent years she resided at Ave Maria Home in Bartlett where she enjoyed joking, laughing and talking with the staff, residents and their family members and her family members. When others presented Edith with problems she went into her counselor mode always looking for a way to fix their problem. She loved music and could sing older songs from beginning to end. Elvis was always her favorite. While she also loved dancing she was limited to wheelchair dancing in her later years. She attended chapel services at Ave Maria.

Before her dementia Edith spent winters crocheting beautifully intricate afghans and doing crossword puzzles. The ones she enjoyed making the most were for her beloved granddaughter Bailey. She was an avid reader who loved to travel and see the sights of the world.

Edith worked several different places. She was retired from Smuckers but suspect her favorite work place was Super D because of the special friends she made; particularly Joel Goldberger who visited her recently.

Edith is survived by her daughter Debbie (Larry), son Steve, granddaughter Bailey and sister Dorothy Jean Adams.

She is predeceased by her loving husband James HermanStanford.
