Edith Louise Bethay passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 at Germantown LeBonheur Hospital. She was a resident of Memphis for over 60 years, the last 16 at Kirby Pines Retirement Village. The family will receive friends at Kirby Pines Chapel from 12:00 p.m. until her memorial service begins at 1:00 pm Sunday and a graveside service will be later Sunday at 2:45 P.M. at Memorial Park Mausoleum. She was a longtime member of Berclair Church of Christ.

Born in Fulton, MS to the late Bonnie and William Denson Roberts. She was predeceased by her husband John Douglas Bethay, sister, Maxine Smith, brothers, Marlin Roberts and Phillip Roberts and great-grandson, Robert Tucker Wells. She was extremely active in the Shelby County Republican Women's Club, selected as a Republican Career Woman. She was a member of the Green Lawn Garden Club, competitive bridge player, a volunteer in the Kirby Pines Rehab Center and The Kirby Pines Kiwanis Club. She was given the Outstanding Service Award by the Memphis City Beautiful Commission. She enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adeline's for many years.

Lou is survived by her children Gloria Madison (Jimmy), Pam Collier (Chuck), Doug Bethay (Grace), grandchildren Angela Wells, Jobe Madison (Joy), Kimberly Leatherman (Britt), Walker Collier(Jordan), Meredith Ellis (Jonathan), Hunter Tuck (Ben), Jack Bethay (Lane) and 19 great Grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to her loving caregivers Lamika Young-Riley, Shirley Munn, Gwendolyn McNeil, Mahogany Leonard.
