Memphis, TN

Eleanor Slaughter Kuss, age 87, passed away April 23, 2017, in Pineville, North Carolina. Born in Dothan, Alabama, she attended Humes High School and Memphis State University. She was an accomplished birder and a true artist with canvas and fabric.

A lifelong member and leader loved by many throughout the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), she was involved locally with Decatur-Trinity Christian Church and Frayser Christian Church, and also with churches in North Carolina. She was a leader in camping ministries, in local mission through Northside Christian Center and in wider church work through Disciples Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Dr. T.O. and Rose Slaughter; her sisters, Kaye Fox and Amy Jo Deutsch; and her husband of 46 years, George Earl Kuss.

She leaves behind three sons, Randy (Deb) Kuss, Jim (Jane) Kuss, and Dan (Kim) Kuss; grandchildren, Jenniffer, Morgan, Zachary, Amy, Taylor, Georgia, Blaine, and James; and 12 great-grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29 at Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a gathering for food and stories at Collierville Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Bethany Hills Camp, c/o Christian Church in Tennessee or Christmount Conference Center in Black Mountain, North Carolina.
