Ellen Lewis Rainey, 92, With her family at her side, quietly passed away on May 29, 2017. Ellen was raised in Michigan City, Mississippi, before coming to Memphis in the early 1940's.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Tracy Rainey. A loving wife and mother, she adored her family. Together, she and Tracy raised three children: Debra Rainey Gammill [Lester] and son, Carter, of Memphis. Brad, Atlanta, Georgia, three sons,

Collins [Lessie] and son, James Andrew, Austin and Nelson, all of Memphis. Patrick [Louise] and one son, Burke [Natalie] and sons, Josiah and Lucas, all of Orlando, Florida, and one daughter, Lauren Rainey Doolan [Kyle] and twins, Parker and Elizabeth, of Philadelphia,Pennsylvania. Ellen also leaves an older brother, Melvin Walker Lewis and other family member Marsha Rainey.

Ellen was a life long Episcopalian, and had been a member of The Church of the Holy Communion for 67 years. She served as Secretary / Treasurer of Rainey Brothers Construction Company for over fifty years. She was active in her community and held several positions and chaired many events in many organizations; President of the Memphis Jaycettes, a Certificate Holder of the Mid South Fair, President of the King's Daughters and Sons Opportunity Circle, Vice Chairman of the Memphis City Beautiful Commission, founder of the Greater Memphis Democratic Women's Club and sang in her church choir for many years. In 1974, Ellen was included in the 8th Edition of Who's Who of American Women. She very much enjoyed her monthly gatherings with "The Do Nothings", a group of retired Jaycettes, whom she loved and had lunch with every month for over 40 years.

Visitation will begin at noon and services will commence at 1:30 on June 16th, at The Church of the Holy Communion, located at 4645 Walnut Grove Road, with burial immediately following at Memorial Park Cemetery, at 5668 Poplar Avenue.

Memorials may be sent in honor of Ellen to The Church of the Holy Communion.
