Evelyn Abroms Seal Kraus

Evelyn Abroms Seal Kraus passed away peacefully with family by her side on October 1, 2017. Evelyn, a true Southern Lady known affectionately as "Queen" was a faithful friend and selfless guardian angel to all who's lives she touched. There was never a holiday, birthday, celebration or illness that went unheralded by her cards, calls or sweet messages.

She was the loving wife of Dr. Melvin M. Kraus, cherished mom to Mark Seal (Laura) of Aspen, CO, Eddie Seal (Melissa) of Corpus Christi, TX and the late B.J. Seal, Jr. (fiancé Jena), beloved stepmother to Marsha Underberg (Mike), Marlene Wright (Jim), David Kraus (Catherine) and Alan Kraus (Malea), all of Memphis. Evelyn was a proud grandmother and great- grandmother. Evelyn was born September 30, 1930 in Greenville, Mississippi, the daughter of Luke and Reba Abroms and sister to Adolph Abroms of Florence, AL. Her father Luke ran a series of retail clothing stores across the South, finally settling in Florence, Alabama where Evelyn met her lifelong friend, Maurine Levinson Pepper.

Evelyn attended Coffee High School, Florence, AL, Ward-Belmont a preparatory school for young women in Nashville and The University of Alabama where she met and married Berney Seal, in 1951 settling in Florence, AL. In 1962, the family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where she found a wealth of new friends and became active in the Temple Beth El, becoming the president of its Sisterhood. In 1969 Evelyn and her sons relocated to Memphis, where she found a new home and a second family with Dr. Melvin Kraus, Evelyn and Mel celebrated their 47th anniversary this year.

She was a member of Temple Israel, where she was involved with the sisterhood and a member of the Jewish Community Center. Her greatest accomplishment was the gracious and loving life she exemplified for her family and all who knew her. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Luke and Reba Abroms and her son, B.J. Seal Jr.

The family thanks caregivers Anna, Linda, Jackie, Emma, Ida, Mary and the caring staff at Methodist Hospice Residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4 at Temple Israel Cemetery, Levy-Cooper Chapel, 1708 Hernando Rd.
