Evelyn Snyder Middleton

Memphis, TN

Evelyn Snyder Middleton, 94, passed away July 26, 2017 at Methodist Germantown Hospital after a short illness. She is predeceased by her husband Paul Middleton, her parents Louie and Ruth Snyder, and her brother Don Snyder. She is survived by daughters Randy Blaine (Milt) of Franklin, Arkansas and Paula McPeak (Joseph) of Memphis; her sister Corinne Bacot of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Howard Paul Allen (Jennifer) of Sherwood, Arkansas, and Sidney Blaine Poole (Randall) of Salem, Arkansas; seven great-grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews, and nine cousins.

Evelyn and her husband Paul both grew up on farms in Turner, Arkansas. After graduating from Marvell High School, she went to Little Rock where she completed business school and started her career in banking. She married her childhood sweetheart and became a military wife and mother, at times working jobs in retail, banking, and school administration. After Paul retired from the USAF, they settled in Memphis where Paul started a second career and they had another child. They were members of Parkway Village Baptist Church. Evelyn was an excellent cook, skilled seamstress, and kept a spotless house. She was a detailed worker at home and on the job.

Evelyn continued working after she was widowed. During this time of her life she also enjoyed gardening, antique collecting, traveling, and being with family and friends. In her eighties she retired from AmSouth Bank after more than 20 years of service and relocated to a beautiful home in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas making many new friends.

For nearly the past five years Evelyn had been a resident of Belmont Village Memphis Assisted Living where she was dearly loved and cared for by her PALs. She read the newspaper everyday, worked the crossword puzzle, and won at Bingo. She was a fan of NBA basketball - especially the Grizzlies, Wheel of Fortune, and Dancing with the Stars.

Evelyn was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, co-worker, friend, neighbor, and patient. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Monday, July 31st from 5-7 p.m. at Forest Hill Funeral Home East 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN 38133. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 1st at Turner Baptist Church in Turner, Arkansas followed by burial in Turner Cemetery.
