Barton, MS

Frank G. Gavrock, 84, of Barton, MS, passed away January 19, 2017. Born October 2, 1932 to the late Lonnie and Ethel Gavrock. Growing up during the depression and World War II, he enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 15 and served 4 years, 1948 – 1952. Okinawa and Germany. Mr. Gavrock is a retired Electrician. A member of Local 474 IBEW. He served as business representative / dispatcher from 1970 through 1983. He also served as Treasurer, Executive Board, Apprenticeship Comm, and R.G. Tate Scholarship Comm.

He acquired his G.E.D. while in the Air Force and attended Draughn Business College under the GI Bill. He was a fast pitch softball pitcher. He started pitching while in the Air Force and various teams in Memphis, including 474 IBEW during the 1950's and 60's. He also hosted many family reunions and over twenty years at his place in Barton, MS.

He was preceded in death by five brothers: Lonnie Jr, Larry, Jimmy, Martin, David and two sisters, Dorothy Williams, Trudy Miles. Mr. Gavrock is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eleanor Pike Gavrock; children: Frank, Jr. (Barbara), Teresa Hines (Haywood), Gail (Debbie), Russell and Bobby (Jessica). He is known by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at Pappoo.

He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Olive Branch, since 1980. Family will receive guests Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with the service to follow. Internment will be held at Barton Cemetery in Byhalia, MS.
