Frank L. Gaia Obituary
Frank L. Gaia

Oxford, MS

Frank L. "Bud" Gaia, 95, of Oxford, MS formerly of Memphis, died April 2, 2017.

Bud was born to Frank A. and Louise Gaia September 28, 1921 in Memphis. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School and won a tennis scholarship to Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. Shortly after his entry into Spring Hill, WWII began and he joined the US Marine Corps. He saw action in the South Pacific at Bougainville, Peleliu, and various islands near New Guinea.

Bud was honorably discharged from the Marines in September 1945 and returned to Memphis where he began a long business career. He was truly, as Tom Brokaw pointed out, a member of this nation's "Greatest Generation".

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Royce in 1980, his parents and his brother Jack. He is survived by his sisters Mildred Brignole and Vivian Pope. He is also survived by his three children, Gerald (Brinkley) of Oxford, MS, Skip (Billie Jo) of Horseshoe Lake, AR and Cheryl Eisenlau (Charles) of the Villages, FL. In addition, Bud is survived by 7 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today, April 6, from 12:45 p.m.-1:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.

The family requests any memorial contributions be made to St. Louis Catholic Church or The Memphis and Shelby County Humane Society.
