Later he founded two businesses, Sound Fighter Systems and BailSco Blades & Castings, whose products are still in use today. He was a Paul Harris Fellow Rotarian, awarded the "Friend of Goodwill," and honored as the Small Business Person of the Year for both Shreveport (1993) and the State of Louisiana (1994).

He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Administrative Board. Fred was known as a generous man who never met a stranger! He enjoyed his work, golf, travel, the North Carolina mountains, family history and dogs.

Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents, his favorite aunt, Anna Leigh "Dook" McCorkle, his brother, James Harris Bailey, and his sisters, Lena Leigh Bailey Anderson and Elizabeth Bailey Phillips.
