Glenn Joseph Hawkins Obituary
Glenn Joseph Hawkins

Germantown, tn

Glenn Joseph Hawkins of Germantown, TN, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2017, due to complications from Parkinson's disease. He was born January 18, 1952, in Tulsa, OK, and grew up there. He received his B.A. from Trinity University (San Antonio) followed by a M.S. in communications from Boston University. After a long career in the petroleum industry, in 1996 he founded The Hawkins Group, a firm involved in lobbying and liaison in the public arena.

Glenn was a life-long learner of American history and politics and motivated by its ideals. His mind was always working, fueled with passion for his family and belief in his work. But perhaps Glenn is best remembered for the impressions he left with friends, at church and through work; with colleagues, in person or through letters; and with children, as a community Santa for over 20 years. Glenn was a fervent believer in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, demonstrating this belief in little acts for those placed around him. A favorite of his (attributed to Loren Eiseley) was the "Starfish Story." He believed each act made a difference. "Faith takes risks. Belief fuels passion."-Glenn Hawkins

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Glenn Hawkins, and mother, Virginia Mavis Saker Hawkins; aunt, Mary Kathryn Hawkins Botts and cousin, Teresa Botts Riggs. He leaves his wife of 30 years, Sharon Louise Ward Hawkins, Germantown, his son, Joseph Francis (Erica) Hawkins, Chicago, IL, and his daughter, Meredith Rhea Hawkins, Birmingham, AL, and his brother, Russell (Diana) Hawkins, Houston, TX. He also leaves his in-laws in Tulsa, cousins from Missouri, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews in Oklahoma and Texas.

On Saturday, August 19, visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Riveroaks Reformed Presbyterian Church, 1665 South Germantown Road, Germantown, TN, where he was a long-time member. A church service will follow at 11:30 a.m. The family requests any memorials be made to favorite charity, ECS, RRPC or Mid-South Parkinson's Group.
