Gordon Glen Winn Obituary
Gordon Glen Winn

Salinas, CA

Gordon Glen Winn, 72, of Salinas, California died February 28, 2017, after a lengthy struggle with COPD. Gordon was born in Memphis, TN and grew up in nearby Covington, TN. He was pre-deceased by his mother Lois Webb, step-father Grover Webb and his father Melvin Winn and step-mother Marie Winn.

Glen Winn as he was known in his youth in Covington joined the United States Army at age 17 and served proudly for 28 years until his retirement in 1988. During his long term and short term duty assignments he was deployed to Vietnam, Germany, Greece, Honduras and Indonesia as well as many locations across the United States. Gordon's last assignment was Command Sergeant Major, Division Artillery, 7thInfantry (Light) at Fort Ord, California. After retiring from the U.S. Army, Gordon enjoyed a second career at Household Credit Services until his disability retirement in 2006.

Gordon was an avid fisherman (big mouth bass were his favorite) and he and his family enjoyed many memorable fishing trips. He also enjoyed taking trips all over the West in his RV. Gordon was an ardent animal lover. He especially enjoyed the faithful companionship of his dogs Bingo, Thumper, and Nuggett (deceased) and Chester who survives him. A naturally outgoing person, Gordon could chat up anyone and 'never met a stranger'.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gabriele Winn of Salinas; his three children and their spouses, three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
