Gregory P. Finton Obituary
Gregory P. Finton

Millington, tn

Gregory P. Finton, 50 years, passed away Tuesday night at Methodist University Hospital, September 5, 2017 surrounded by his mother and his long-time girl-friend, Jill.

Gregory was better known to his friends as Greg and in high school he was often just called out to as "hey Zebergs". He was a graduate of Millington High School Class of 1984. Growing up he loved sports and started playing pee wee baseball with the Giants and finished with the Pirates. Football, his second love, he served as a quarterback much of the time with the Dolphins. His other interests were hunting along with his side kick, Big Boy his beagle and fishing, his lifelong love. He always loved dogs especially his Blue Pit-bulls, Bubba, Lucy and their pup Gronk, his family for years.

As the oldest son of Rosalind and Sam Finton, he was a resident of Millington and the Memphis area since 1975. Greg was born in Framingham, Massachusetts, of which he was very proud. Anyone who knew Greg will recall him throwing on that great New England accent. He loved his grand- parents and always said he inherited his carpentry skills from his grandpa. He also "loved em" some New England Patriots and Red Sox baseball, his favorite teams.

Greg was a carpeconstruction tradesman, a field in which he was very talented. His first project which he loved talking about was helping his mother paint his room when he was only 5 years old. He never stopped helping with such ventures and learned much of his love of building through designing and building our brick patio at the young age of 16 to helping a neighbor build his new house in Atoka. He continued on building/framing houses on a team then running his own crew working with Larry Simpson and for Rob Hansen of Memphis, such that where ever one travels from Mud Island to Cordova to Collierville area one will find houses he was involved in the construction there of. His most recent endeavors were in remodeling.

Along with his parents, Greg is survived by three brothers, Jeffrey Finton of Memphis, Jason Finton of Sarasota, FL, and David Finton of Millington, and nephew Hollis Finton, of the Jacksonville, FL. area. His extended loving family includes Aunts, Uncles, a Great Uncle and cousins from MA, MS, and OR. He is dearly remembered by close friends to include Toni Strickland and Jill Oliver and her family of Millington.

Please join us in a celebration of his life to be held at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home on Monday, September 11, 2017. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. with a memorial service at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the ASPCA or animal shelter of your choice, or the Liver Foundation.
