Homer L. McMinn Obituary
Homer L. McMinn

Memphis, TN

Homer L. "Don" McMinn also known as "Papa Don", Blues music legend, passed away on June 4, 2017 after a brief illness. Don was instrumental in the rebirth of Beale Street in the 80's and for years was the Entertainment Director and leader of the house band at Rum Boogie Café. Everyone who was anyone came by and when the big names came to town to record or perform, they stopped in to jam with him. Don recorded several albums and performed on many others, he also toured the world multiple times playing his style of Boogie and Delta Blues for fans everywhere. Don loved to give back to the music community and did so by mentoring and teaching many musicians over the years. There was no greater pride though than working with his children and grandson in the studio and on stage. Don's first love was always his family. Don is preceded in death by his parents Homer J. and Ida Mae McMinn. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Judy; daughters Lorina, Tina, Nicole (Laura Fortgang); sons Doug (Mandy), Rome (Shannon); grandchildren Sterlin, Kera Clark (Matthew), Michael and three great-grand sons. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home of Hernando. A music filled celebration of life will be held at Neil's Music Room on Quince, Sunday, June 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. p.m.
