Acworth, GA

James Dixon Maxwell passed away peacefully on Monday, March 20, 2017, at Halcyon House in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a resident of Acworth, Georgia, For 39 years. Mr. Maxwell was preceded in death by his parents, James Lois Maxwell and Eloise Dickson Maxwell, a son, Mark Allen Maxwell, and siblings, David Maxwell, Robert Maxwell, Janice Maxwell Harland, and Melba Maxwell Strong. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Deloris Taylor Maxwell and children, James Maxwell (Cynthia), Ken Maxwell, Donald Maxwell (Cathy), Gina Maxwell Willkie (Buddy) and Christy Maxwell Smith (Tim). He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca Maxwell Trafford of Memphis, Tennessee. Mr. Maxwell was born in Watson, Mississippi on February 16, 1932. He lived his early life in Cochran, Mississippi, and attended a one-room school in Hernando, Mississippi, later moving with his family to the Memphis, Tennessee, area. He graduated from Whitehaven High School in 1950. He and Deloris were married in Hernando, Mississippi on February 26, 1955. He joined the Air Force in 1951, and was a 20 year veteran, retiring honorably in 1971, as a Master Sargent with three Air Force Accommodation Medals for Meritorious Service. Upon retirement, he attended Okaloosa-Walton College, obtaining a business degree. He joined Hardee's Food Systems in 1972 and retired in 1987 as a Director of Training. Mr. Maxwell was a loving and generous father, and a wonderful grandfather to Kelly, Chris, Jamie, Jeremy, Amy, Kate, Jessica, Ashley, Robbie, and Cara Ann, as well as to 14 great-grandchildren. In his retirement, he enjoyed travelling, the Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Falcons. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March, 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Woodstock Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Thursday, March 23, at 10:30 am, also at Woodstock Funeral Home. Interment will full military honors will follow at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia.
