James Joseph McNulty Jr. Obituary
James Joseph McNulty, Jr.

Memphis, tn

James "Jim" Joseph McNulty, Jr., was born December 31, 1922 to James J. McNulty, Sr. and Florence McIntosh McNulty in Memphis, Tennessee. Ninety-four years old, he died peacefully Saturday evening, September 23, 2017. He is survived by his sister, Sr. Martha McNulty, O.P., his sister-in-law, Mary Oldham, nephews, Toney Walsh (Gina), Jack McNulty (Beth), Tom Walsh (Beth), Kevin McNulty, Michael McNulty (Karen), Peter McNulty; nieces, Celia Walsh and Missy Pittman (Sam) as well as beloved grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret M. Walsh, and his brother, John B. McNulty.

He did not let his blindness, and later deafness, hold him back. "The blind person has a much better chance for happiness and success if he takes the initiative to succeed. However, he cannot do that unless the people around him give him a chance and some encouragement." His words speak for all, not just the blind and deaf. He was a man of faith. His intelligence, strength, tenacity, love of family, respect for others, spirituality, joy, and kindness made him the dear, special person that he was. He is missed.

His family will receive friends and family at 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 29 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 4851 Park Avenue, Memphis, TN 38117. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Margaret McNulty Walsh Music Scholarship at St. Agnes Academy, 4830 Walnut Grove Rd., Memphis, TN 38117, or that you do something kind for someone less fortunate.
