James Lee Wright Obituary
James Lee Wright

Memphis, TN

Jim Wright, a life-long Memphian, passed away Monday, February 6, at Stonecrest Hospital in Smyrna, Tennessee after falling ill during his Christmas visit with his niece Sharon Clynese Timmons, her husband Jon and his great nieces Nadia and Tiki, who always referred to him as Papaw. He was a bachelor, but he considered and loved these children as his grandchildren. Family was always paramount in importance to Jim. He and his surviving sister, Teena Hartsoch, made frequent trips to stay in touch with relatives no matter how far away they lived from Memphis and were very diligent in keeping up with family news and events. Many of his nieces and nephews felt that he played an important part in "raising" them with guidance, deep friendship and love. Jim also loved the city of Memphis and rejoiced in his home town's accomplishments as much as he worried about the problems it has faced during his lifetime. He also often expressed a sense of patriotism that was very close to family loyalty.

Jim was born in Memphis on November 5, 1938 and attended Messick Elementary and High School. He also attended Memphis State, now the University of Memphis, and spent much of the sixties in the Army. He was especially proud of his service as an Assistant Personnel Psychologist for the Army, administering the tests that determined which positions were most suitable for new recruits. After completing his service, he worked for Delta Detroit Diesel from which he retired in 2002.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Icy Wright, his sisters Alice Clynese Winston and Geneva Pampuro and his brother John Wright. He is survived by his sisters Teena Hartsoch and Sara Wilson, brother-in-law Dave Wilson, sister-in-law Verna Wright and brother-in-law Joe Pampuro, as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who were very dear to him as he was to them.

Visitation is scheduled for 7:00 to 8:30 at Memphis Funeral Home on Friday, February 10. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00, with interment at Memorial Park. For those who would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers, please send these to St. Jude in Jim's Honor
