James Marlin Medford Obituary
James Marlin Medford

Collierville, TN

James Marlin Medford, 82, passed away on August 10, 2017 after a long battle with Parkinson's Syndrome.

James was a 1953 graduate of Millington High School where he captured the hearts and minds of fellow classmates to become Mr. Millington, and hold the title of Captain of both the football and basketball teams. Over the decades, he went on to become an entrepreneur, highly successful insurance and investment banking executive and leading salesman for many years at Acura of Memphis. He always found time for his family and had an absolute passion for golf, college sports, good food and the movies.

James is remembered for his humbleness and his passion for people. He never met a stranger.

Jim was an avid churchgoer and a leader in the Episcopal Church for many years and served on the Vestry of St. Anne's Episcopal Church in the 1980s. His gift for song and his musical spirit found its way into the Choir, and even in his final days, he loved singing spiritual hymns to his neighbors and friends.

He is survived by his wife, and high school sweetheart of 62 years, Letitia Austin Ward, his children, Teresa Medford Zinkle (Steve) Martha Medford Lendermon (Gary) and James Spencer Medford (Gini) and his four grandchildren, Samuel Hale, Abigail Lee Hale, Austin Zinkle and Allen Zinkle.

He leaves his family and friends with memories that will last forever. He never stopped helping others and had a philanthropic spirit that never stopped giving back.

Visitation will be held at the Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN from 5 pm to 7 pm on Monday, August 14. Funeral service will be held at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 4063 Sykes Road, Millington TN at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 15.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to either the National Parkinson Foundation at or to St. Anne's Episcopal Church, at 4063 Sykes Rd, Millington, TN 38053
