James Melvin McCullough Obituary
James Melvin McCullough

Memphis, TN

James Melvin McCullough was born on April 21, 1958 and was reunited with his parents Jim and Myrtle McCullough on January 12, 2017. He is survived by his sisters Pat Mays (Rick) and Susan Mayo (Don). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Chuck Mays (Melanie), Leigh Anne Mays Almeida (Rick), Donny Mayo (Kathryn) and Amy Mayo Cornelius (Michael).

James was in the first graduating class at Madonna Learning Center, and we thank Madonna for his education. James was employed at Shelby Residential Vocational Services (SRVS). He was a member of the Joy Class at Bellevue Baptist Church where he played volleyball, softball and basketball. We also thank the Joy Class for helping James grow in his faith.

James loved Elvis, sports of all kinds, Cokes, bologna sandwiches, dancing, swimming, and playing Uno. James also treasured his relationship with fiance Lisa Thompson.

James lived for 58 years with Down Syndrome, and he was what God intended all of us to be pure in mind and pure in heart. He did not concern himself with color, religion, or wealth or anything else others notice. James had an amazing personality because he always saw the positive in people and his life. This positive attitude made him a treasure in the lives of all who knew him. He loved having fun with his family, friends and Lisa. James had a wonderful way of lighting up a room! Hope we never forget all that he taught us.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Ave Maria for the excellent care he received for the past 15 months.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Shepard's Haven or Madonna Learning Center. These organizations had a tremendous impact in the quality and joy of James' life. The family would like for that legacy to continue for many other families in the community.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, January 15 and service at 2 p.m. Monday, January 16 at Forest Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, East.
