James Windham "Jim" Rorie Sr. died Monday, August 28, 2017 at the age of 78. He was born January 28, 1939 in New Albany, MS to Reuben Windham Rorie and Kathleen Williams Rorie.

He graduated from Amory, MS High School with the Class of 1956. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked for Delta Airlines, Inc at the Memphis International Airport for 30 years, retiring in 1992. After retirement, he pursued his lifelong love of music. He was an accomplished songwriter with over 80 songs published and he recorded 10 CD albums through his record company, JIRO Records. His One More For The Ditch CD was leased by Scana Records in Sweden and released throughout Europe. He was also featured on Germany's Bear Family Records 30 year anniversary special edition CD. He was a member of the American Legion Post 24 in Tombstone, Arizona and a Lifetime Member of the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 31, with services immediately following at 1 p.m. at United Funeral Service in New Albany, MS with Rev. Eugene Stockstill officiating. Burial will be at Gerizim Cemetery in Myrtle, MS. United Funeral Service will be in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his daughter, Robin Bolton (Ben) of Oxford; his son, James Windham Rorie Jr. (Kapie) of Memphis; five grandchildren, Rorie Bolton, Benjamin Bolton, Ann Lindsey Bolton, Maverick Rorie and Lexie Rorie, his sister-in-law, Wanda Rorie of Myrtle; and the mother of his children, Lyna K. Rorie of Oxford. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Larry W. Rorie.

Pallbearers will be Mark Rorie, Scott Rorie, Bryan Gregory, Sean Stewart, Ron Stewart, Mike Jones, Chris Page, Mark Cross and Jerry Achord.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.

In honor of Mr. Rorie's service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U.S. Marine flag during his visitation and service.
