83, born August 12, 1933 in Wichita Falls, TX passed away Friday, January 13, 2017. He was the son of Dr. Howard Thomas and Jennie Wood. He leaves his beloved wife of 58 years Barta Rice Wood. Together their love gave life to Debra Leigh Macdonald (Dave), Gulf Breeze, FL; Steve Douglas and Tracy Link, Memphis. He was predeceased by his brother Trent Wood, Tulsa. Family left to mourn his loss are his brother Don Wood (Bev), Germantown; sister-in-law Mae Wood, Tulsa and several nieces and nephews and their families. Pop Pop was so proud of his four grandchildren Chris Wood (McKalie), Knoxville; Madison Wood, Ft. Collins, CO; Maggie and James Macdonald, Gulf Breeze, FL.

Jerry attended Fairview Junior High, Central High School and graduated from Southwestern College (now Rhodes).He served in the Army in Tokyo, Japan, 2 1/2 years in the communication center HQ Far East Command and later at Fuchu Air Station.

Returning to civilian life, Jerry began a 41-year career at Union Planters National Bank retiring as vice president December 31, 1999. He graduated from LSU Banking School of the South. After retirement because of his bank training and experience, he was able to diligently serve his church as treasurer for 5 years.

Although Jerry battled cancer for 31 years, he never let it define his life. He loved people and had a winning personality. He loved sports and travel and enjoyed attending P.E.O. Sisterhood state and international conventions with his wife. The two big things in his life were his family and Kingsway Christian Church which he considered his wider family. During 50 years at Kingsway Jerry served as elder, being bestowed the honor of Elder Emeritus last year.

The family will hold a private burial service on Monday, January 16, 2017. Visitation will be Monday January 16, 2017 at 1 PM at Kingsway Christian Church, 7887 Poplar, Germantown, TN with the Celebration of Love and Life service at 2 PM with reception immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Chapel Fund at Kingsway Christian Church, 7887 Poplar Germantown, TN 38138.
