John K. Lawo Jr. Obituary
John K. Lawo, Jr.

Germantown, TN.

It is with great sadness that the family of John K. Lawo, Jr. announce his unexpected passing at age 77 on August 9th 2018. John was born March 11th, 1941 in Memphis, Tennessee to John (Jake) K. Lawo Sr. and Virginia Davis Lawo (both deceased).

John attended Vanderbilt University and Stanford Graduate School of Business (in Magazine Publishing). He was a member of the American Business Media, American Marketing Association, the Association of Magazine Media, MUS Alumni Association, Sigma Delta Chi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the Vanderbilt Alumni Association & Career Advisory Board. Mr. Lawo was instrumental in the founding, development and operation of numerous publishing businesses in local, national, and international markets. He was an avid Cubs fan and never missed a game weather in person or on TV. His favorite line was "Don't tell me the score!" In Chicago, he met the love of his life, Beth, at Butch McGuire's - something he was always strangely proud of because he had been a regular there for more than 20 years! The Aloha of Hawaii, Butch McGuire's in Chicago, and time spent with his family always held a special place in his heart.

John leaves behind his beloved wife of 31 years Elizabeth (Beth) Schwenk Lawo of Northfield, IL and four children John K. Lawo III of Kailua, Hawaii, Caroline B. Lawo of Kailua, Hawaii, Farrell V. Lawo of Houston, TX and Madeleine E. Lawo of Dallas, TX. He was particularly proud of the life-long special friendships of his late cousin Bill Taylor and dear friends Dee and David B. Gibson and Ronnie Davis. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. George's Independent School or a .

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 13, 2018 from 3pm-4pm, with the funeral service at 4pm in the Riverside Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home. There will be a private interment afterwards.
