Josepha B. May

Hernando, MS

Josepha B. "Trudy" May, 91 of Hernando, MS passed away on June 4, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.

Trudy was born in Knobel, Ark on July 17, 1925 to the late M. Don Byers and Hildegard Sellmeyer Byers. She was a graduate of St. Bernards Nurses College in Jonesboro, AR. As an RN during World War II, she worked at the old Kennedy Hospital on Getwell Road where she met the love of her life Henry Clayton May Jr. They were married almost 45 years and raised four children together. She missed him every day since he passed 25 years ago. It's wonderful to know they are once again making each other laugh.

She rescued, raised and loved many dogs throughout her lifetime, She passed on her passion and love of dogs to her children who carry on her tradition of saving and loving as many of them as they can.

Her hobbies of gardening and bridge playing filled her days with happiness. Even into her 90's she relished the large parties at the home that Henry built for her. She was a devout life long Catholic and a communicant of St Paul's for over 55 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Edwards, sons, Clayton May III (Cindy), Don May (Billy), and Chris May (Audra). Special thanks to Chris and Audra who lovingly cared for her the last 10 years. Grandchildren are Shad Edwards (Stanna), Gabriel Edwards (Erica), Jacob Edwards (Sarah), Erika McNichols (Bob), Kyla Blum (Jarret), Makenzie May, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was the oldest of seven sisters and is survived by Marion Kubitschek, Lucia Reynolds, Rita Johnson, Celeste DiMatteo (Phil), Regina Dawson (Gerald), and Judy Fanning (Allan).

We would like to thank Dr. Ciao Newman, Amy Gaskin NP and the entire staff of Midsouth Medicine for their exceptional care. Also her home healthcare workers which include Molly Bienvenu, Angela Payne and Lisa McGraw RN. Your care was wonderful.

Visitation will be Thursday June 8 from 6-8 at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Funeral will be Friday June 9 at 11 a.m. A luncheon will immediately follow in the Parrish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's at 1425 East Shelby Drive, Memphis, TN 38116. Hernando Animal Shelter at 2601 Elm Street #4, Hernando MS 38632 or Tunica Humane Society at PO Box 236, Tunica MS 38676.

Lovingly called Honey by her family, they will miss her terribly but as blessed knowing she is in God's hands now.
