Kenneth Neal Carter Obituary
Kenneth Neal Carter

Memphis, TN

Kenneth 'Neal' Carter, retired bookkeeping manager with McClerkin Motors for 28 years, and guitar enthusiast who for more than 10 years played lead guitar for the Rapscallions, died unexpectedly on October 3, 2017.

Neal was born in Memphis on June 7, 1945 and graduated from Oakhaven High School in 1963 where he majored in math and science. Even in high school, his love for guitar and the rhythm 'n blues music of the Memphis sound was evident and for years he was a regular on many Memphis music scene venues and in jam sessions that often went well into the mornings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kenneth Carter and by his fellow musicians, Jerry Riley and Thomas Boggs and fellow Rapscallions, Errol Hendrix and Phillip Dale Durham.

After retiring, Neal led a quiet life of selflessness, always glad for a visit with old friends and musicians. He leaves his fellow worshippers at Aldersgate United Methodist Church where he was a faithful member, his legacy of Memphis music in those with whom he played, and his many, many friends at his second home, Huey's on Madison.

Fellowship and Remembrances will begin at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life memorial service at 11 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 14th.

Donations in Neal's name can be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or whatever organization you wish.
