Larry R. Quinn Obituary
Larry R. Quinn

Collierville, TN

Lawrence Roura Quinn was born at Women's Hospital in Detroit, MI, June 12, 1939. Proud parents were Elizabeth Roura and Lawrence Eulberg Quinn. When Betty was pregnant with Larry, she used to say, "saving one for Binker", when eating, and the nickname stuck. The three moved to Ann Arbor where Binker's sister Betsy was born in 1943. In 1945 the family moved to Birmingham, MI to live with grandparents Elizabeth and Joe Roura. The youngest, Kathy was born in 1946.

On Larry's twelfth birthday in 1951, the Quinns moved across town to 1380 Buckingham, the family homestead where all of the kids would be raised.

Larry graduated from Birmingham High School, served in the United States Marine Corps (1960-1966) and graduated from Kalamazoo College in 1961. He had two children Nicholas Timko (1962) and Laurie Elizabeth (1964) and worked as a tool and die maker. He graduated from Detroit College of Law in 1970.

In 1974 Larry moved to Holly Springs, MS, to run Roura Iron Works, a steel fabricating business. He would spend the remainder of his life in the south, and retire as CEO of Roura in 2003. Larry was the proud grandfather of Justin, Katrina, Lindsey and Tammy Montroy. He married Jo Thompson Cacaro on March 6, 2012. They lived at Carnegie Club Drive in Collierville, TN. Together they enjoyed many trips to their beloved lake home in Hot Springs Village, AR.

When asked for words of advice for a class grandparent book by his youngest grandchild, Tammy, he replied: "Here are some words of wisdom that I shared with your mother as she was leaving for college, 'If you look for the good in people you will find it; if you look for the bad, you will find it too.'"

Larry is survived by his wife, Jo Harper Quinn, daughter Laurie Montroy (Tim), and his step children Art Cacaro (Karen), Tony Cacaro, and Lisa Cacaro. He is also survived by his grandchildren Justin, Katrina and Tammy, step grandchildren Kristen Denney (Ross), Justin and Reid Cacaro, his sisters Betsy Harrison (Curt) and Katherine Cox (Clifford), nieces Beth Knudsen (Eric), Emily Lieske (Eric), Jennifer Thornton (Jeff) and nephews Clifford Cox (Patrizia) and Kevin Cox (Amanda).

He was predeceased by his son Nick (1983), his wife Nancy Hairston (2011) and granddaughter Lindsey (2013). The family will receive friends Friday, March 24 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at St. George Episcopal Church, 2425 S. Germantown Rd.
