Dr. Larry R. Edwards, 72, of Germantown, TN was called home to Glory on February 26, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty, daughter, Fran Parker, and son, Bill Edwards (Mary Beth), three grandchildren, Hayley Parker, Bennett and Ella Griffin Edwards, a great- grandson, KJ, and sister Mickey Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Clara Edwards, and brothers Walter "Sonny" Edwards and Thomas "Pompi" Edwards, all of Charleston, SC. He graduated from Erskine College in Due West, SC where he was a member of the Flying Fleet baseball team and was inducted into the Flying Fleet Hall of Fame. After a stint in the Cleveland Indians organization, Larry was a professor at the University of Memphis in the HPER department for 30 years, followed by a 10 year career with the Department of Homeland Security.

He will be remembered for his service to the Lord, to his church, Riveroaks Reformed Presbyterian Church, and to ECS, his passion for the University of Memphis, its students, faculty and Tiger Athletics and for the countless hours spent with his regular foursome at Cherokee Valley Golf Club.

Dr. Edwards leaves a lasting legacy in youth sports. He served as the director for both the TN Sportsfest and the AABC Willie Mays World series and was the founder and director of the Peepers Optical Youth Basketball Tournament, which is now the MAM Christmas Classic. He most recently enjoyed his role as General Manager of the Memphis Tigers 9U baseball team.

Visitation with the family will be held Thursday, March 2 from 5-7pm at Riveroaks Reformed Presbyterian Church with the Memorial service Friday, March 3 at 11am at Independent Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Hope Christian Community Foundation in Memory of Larry Edwards.
