Lewis Bailey O'Kelly, 84, passed away on March 4, 2017. Born in Memphis, Tennessee on June 4, 1932 and grew up in Big Creek Mississippi.

After graduating from high school in Big Creek Mississippi he moved to Memphis to start his undergraduate studies at Memphis State College. His studies were interrupted by the Korean war which he spent on active duty in the US Navy. Upon completing his service, he resumed his undergraduate studies and completed a degree in Chemistry. He continued his studies at Vanderbilt University where he obtained a master's degree in Physics. He married Molly Montine Stone in June of 1955 and they were happily married for 67 until her death in February 2012. Lewis returned to Memphis to start teaching at Memphis State University in 1962 where he taught for the next 50 years. He was a longtime member of the congregation and member of the board of trustees of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. In addition to his love of teaching, Lewis was a tremendous wood worker and an avid bicycle rider with the Memphis Hightailers.

He is preceded in death by his parents James and Ruth O'Kelly; and wife Molly O'Kelly. His survivors include sons William Lewis O'Kelly, Michael Bailey O'Kelly and daughter Molly Ann Freeze; beloved grandchildren Wilson Freeze, Taylor O'Kelly, Christina Stanley all of Memphis; beloved great-grandchildren Carly and Aiden Harris.

The Celebration of Life Visitation and Service for Lewis O'Kelly will be held at St. Luke's UMC on Highland. Visitation will begin at 2:00 and the service will follow at 4:00.

The family requests memorials be sent to the Molly O'Kelly Food Pantry, care of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
