Louise Mitchell Cirtain died Saturday, January 28, 2017. Louise was born in Bells, TN July 4, 1924, the daughter of Luther and Hattie Mitchell. After graduating from Bells High School, Louise moved to Memphis where she met and married her husband, Jim Cirtain. They were married for 73 years until his death December 1, 2015. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Whaley Ragland and her husband, David, and daughter-in-law, Margaret Cook Cirtain. She cherished her four grandchildren: Lisa Whaley Marcom and husband, Scott; Lea Whaley Freeman and husband, Sean; Jonathan Wesley Cirtain and wife, Melissa, and Kevin Cullen Cirtain. She was blessed with four great-grandchildren: Griffin, Abbie and Sarah Marcom and Emily Claire Cirtain. She was Aunt Louise to Eileen Mitchell Lowry, Robert, Jim and David Mitchell. Louise retired from the Commercial Appeal after 25 years of service. After retirement, she was a volunteer for the Baddour Center and Alzheimer's Day Services. Louise was a lifelong Presbyterian being a member at Highland Heights Presbyterian Church and Woodland Presbyterian Church. She was involved in the women's ministry, the outreach choir and the youth ministry.

Louise and seven friends started a monthly lunch group that took place for over 50 years. In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Cirtain; her son, Ronald Wesley Cirtain; her brothers, Martin and Marvin Mitchell; and a special cousin, Lawrence Farrow. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 31 at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Her celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. with graveside service immediately following the celebration.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf, 7901 Poplar Avenue, Germantown, TN 38138.
