Reverend Dr. Loyal Edward Featherstone was born to the late Robert and Eula Featherstone, the fifth of eight children. Brother, Maurice Featherstone preceded him in death.

After a whirlwind six-month courtship, Loyal united in holy matrimony with the former Rowena Allen. On February 09, 2020 they celebrated forty years of marriage.

Reverend Featherstone accepted Christ at the Castalia Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Calvin Mims. As Chairman of the Economic Empowerment Ministry, he taught and presented seminars locally and nationally on the subject. He was a former pastor of the New Zion Baptist Church, Olive Branch, MS.

Reverend Featherstone was a 1968 graduate of Melrose High School, Memphis State University (University of Memphis), Memphis Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity). He was conferred a Doctorate of Humane Letters by the Tennessee School of Religion. He was a tenured Land Use Board Commissioner and Utility Overview Board Commissioner for the State of Tennessee. He served as Board Chairman of the Memphis Health Center and Treasurer of the Zion District Association and the African American Museum of Memphis. My condolences to all who knew and of course, to know Loyal is to have affinity for him. I met him at Memphis State many years ago. His gentlemanly manner and warm smile was his halo. I used to see him working late at night dutifully mopping the floor at Fred Montesi on Madison. He was so industrious! I see from his obituary that he remained a soldier in the Army of the Lord. Job well done; lets celebrate.

We recently found out that this soldier has gone home and we would like to send out condolences to the family. Understanding christian death is not the end but the beginning. We would like to thank him for all he has done for us and we know he will be truly missed. He has worked hard in this world to accomplish the things he has done. Loyal may you find rest and peace with Jesus. from Gregory and Loretha Bryant family

Growing up in the Magnolia neighborhood, everybody knew everybody. Of course this included the Featherstone family. Whenever I saw Loyal, he always had a smile and a heart-warming word. He was a humble soul, a quiet giant. I know the Magnolia/Castalia community joins me in saying that he will be missed, but we know God has opened His arms to welcome him. We pray that precious memories will linger and that God's sweet consolation will sustain the family in the days to come. Rest now, Loyal, rest. Your legacy will live on.
