Sunrise: July 17, 1937 - Sunset: April 13, 2017. Marvin Harris, Jr., 79, was born in Sardis, MS to Marvin Harris, Sr. and Mattie Pearl Hentz Harris. He graduated from Walton Chapel High School in North Panola County, MS; Coahoma Junior College with A.A. and received a B.S., Ed from Alcorn State University; M.S. plus 40 hours in Educational Administration from Memphis State University. He served in the US Army and was a National Guard Recruiter. Marvin Harris retired as Principal of Bruce Elementary School after working for Memphis City Schools 38 years. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lillian D. Harris, children, Marla Fitzgerald and Marc Harris; grandsons, Max Harris and J2 Fitzgerald; brothers, Harry, Arnold, James, Vann, Henry, Dr. Jerry Harris; sister, Montee Johnson; sisters-in-laws, Frances B. Kelley, Louise D. Patterson, Charlotte Kimber; brother-in-laws, Ronald E. Dowdy, Larry Kimber and the Late Presiding Bishop G. E. Patterson ; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral Services: 12 p.m. Thursday, April 20 at Greater Middle Baptist Church, 4982 Knight Arnold Rd, Memphis, TN 38118. Entombment following at 2:30 p.m. in West Tennessee Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
